Industry Leading XDR to Accelerate Threat Detection to Response with the Power of AI

Trellix, the cybersecurity company delivering the future of extended detection and response (XDR), today announced its generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) capabilities, built on Amazon Bedrock and supported by Trellix Advanced Research Center. Amazon Bedrock is a fully managed service from Amazon Web Services (AWS) making foundation models (FMs) from leading AI companies accessible via an API to build and scale generative AI applications. By expanding its relationship with AWS, Trellix continues to make investments in GenAI to provide customers with accelerated threat remediation and improved support.

Adopting a comprehensive threat detection and response program is essential for reducing cyber risk. Every second counts when identifying and responding to threats, and the majority of CISOs struggle with resource shortages. With Trellix GenAI and Amazon Bedrock, SecOps teams will be able to more quickly accelerate from detection to investigation through response, helping constrained security analysts be more efficient.

“As security threats evolve, businesses require innovative solutions to quickly move from detection to mitigation, and the ability to communicate cyber and business risk in simple language,” says John Morgan, General Manager XDR, Trellix. “AWS enables Trellix to continue delivering transformative products to our customers, leveraging the power of GenAI to accelerate their cybersecurity initiatives.”

Customers receive the following benefits:

  • Accelerated Threat Detection and Response: AI-guided investigations quickly assess the risk of cyber detection events, lowering the signal-to-noise ratio, and reducing the time to respond.
  • Enhanced Customer Support: The Trellix customer support chatbot is capable of answering almost any question covered in Trellix documentation, removing the need and extra time it takes to search across product documentation.
  • Automated Content Development: Partnering with Trellix Professional Services and leveraging the Trellix XDR Platform’s expansive ecosystem, playbook workflows, custom rule development, and product integrations are expedited through AI-powered tooling, adapting to customers’ unique environments.

“We partnered with Trellix to explore new ways to automate investigations,” says Chuck Lerch, CXO Head of Cybersecurity, Cyberuptive. “In this groundbreaking work, we combined Trellix XDR Platform’s rich data and investigative playbooks with LLMs running on AWS to make comprehensive assessments of alerts. The results are providing useful insights and showing the value of being able to focus on security research instead of how to run an LLM at scale.”

Trellix and AWS believe in responsible AI with data privacy at the core, allowing users to custom-train AI output while keeping data and results private. Additionally, Trellix follows an ethical-use AI technology policy and is actively engaged with influential entities, including the Open Worldwide Application Security Project (OWASP), World Economic Forum (WEF), National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC), UK, EU, and other governments to educate and provide input to proposals to govern the responsible use of AI.

“Amazon Bedrock is built with security and privacy in mind and makes it easy for customers to easily and securely experiment with a variety of top foundation models (FMs) and customize them privately using their proprietary data,” said Atul Deo, general manager of Amazon Bedrock, AWS. “As one of the early adopters, Trellix integrated Amazon Bedrock capabilities into threat detection services to analyze evidence and provide AI-powered suggestions to help customers determine the severity of an alert. Through this integration, we look forward to customers using the power of generative AI to help identify and remediate cybersecurity threats.”

Clarity AI and AWS Advance Sustainable Investing at Scale

Clarity AI and AWS Advance Sustainable Investing at Scale

Leading sustainability technology platform, Clarity AI, uses AWS’s generative AI, machine learning, and analytics capabilities to measure sustainability and social impact of companies and funds

At AWS re:Invent, Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com, Inc. company, today announced that Clarity AI, a leading technology company that delivers environmental and social insights to ensure that companies and consumers invest and purchase sustainably, is all in on AWS. Clarity AI’s platform analyzes millions of data points to help investors track, measure, and optimize the social and sustainability impact of their investment portfolios and comply with regulatory reporting. These insights empower 150 million shoppers to purchase from sustainable brands and help investors direct more than $30 trillion in funds toward companies that produce positive environmental impacts.

“AWS provides the cloud services, flexibility, and scale we need to be a data-driven company, to unlock the power of AI, and to deliver critical sustainability insights to investors, consumers, and organizations making key decisions that impact our planet and its inhabitants each and every day,” said Ángel Agudo, board director and senior vice president of Product at Clarity AI. “At Clarity AI, our ambition is that social and environmental impact is seen by investors and businesses as a key variable beyond purely financial values.”

Clarity AI runs its mission-critical platforms on AWS and uses AWS generative artificial intelligence (generative AI), machine learning (ML), and analytics capabilities to provide sustainability analysis tools for investing, corporate research, benchmarking, consumer ecommerce purchasing, and regulatory reporting. Using Amazon SageMaker, a fully managed service to build, train, and deploy ML models, Amazon SageMaker Studio, a development environment for ML, and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) GPU instances, Clarity AI trains up to 7 billion parameter large language models (LLMs) and natural language processing (NLP) models. These models detect, manage, and classify millions of unstructured data points from sustainability reports, financial reports, earnings calls, and research documents. Clarity AI then uses this data to pinpoint which companies might be impacted by a specific news event and determine the level of environmental severity. This unbiased information is then shared with investors, researchers, and consumers to help them make sustainable investing and purchasing decisions.

Leveraging cloud capabilities from AWS, Clarity AI’s sustainability technology platform provides clear and objective data on more than 70,000 companies, 420,000 funds, and 400 local governments. Ecommerce companies use the company’s environmental analysis of electronics, fashion and apparel, groceries and household brands, and health and beauty companies to visually identify sustainable brands to shoppers. Clarity AI’s platform integrates with existing ecommerce environments to display badges that recognize a brand’s sustainability performance, allowing environmentally conscious shoppers to reward sustainable practices through their purchases.

Today’s investors and consumers base investment and purchase decisions on reporting frameworks—such as environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reports—that disclose information about an organization’s environmental impact. Investors use the data in these reports to track a company’s environmental and societal impact, but it can be challenging to validate ESG performance data because of the lack of unified reporting standards, evolving ESG regulations, and fragmented data.

Clarity AI developed generative AI models on AWS using Amazon SageMaker to uncover new data points that help clients avoid investing in companies or funds that are engaged in greenwashing or harmful environmental practices. Using NLP models, Clarity AI extracts information, identifies problems, and evaluates the importance of environmental issues. Amazon QuickSight, AWS’s business intelligence service, enables Clarity AI to present findings using modern, interactive dashboards, reports, embedded analytics, and natural language queries. Internally, Clarity AI uses a generative AI–powered chatbot that runs on AWS to handle inquiries from prospective clients, increasing the efficiency of their product specialist team.

The company also relies on AWS to manage security, improve governance, and maintain regulatory compliance. Clarity AI is using Amazon GuardDuty, a threat detection service that continuously monitors AWS accounts and workloads for malicious activity, and AWS WAF as a web firewall to protect against common web exploits and bots that can affect availability and compromise security. AWS security and compliance services have contributed to Clarity AI’s granting of ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certifications.

Moving forward, Clarity AI plans to expand its use of AWS generative AI and machine learning services such as Amazon Bedrock, a service that makes multiple foundation models available via an API, to harness innovative technologies, help them streamline their model development process, and strengthen their inference capabilities.

“Generative AI has the potential to transform every application, business, and industry, and Clarity AI is a great example of how this technology can deliver important benefits for business, society, and the planet, helping the world make more sustainable investments and purchase decisions,” said Matt Garman, senior vice president of Sales, Marketing, and Global Services at AWS. “Working with customers like Clarity AI, we believe that choice and security are the winning combination that will help organizations make the most of generative AI to reimagine experiences for customers.”

Trend Vision One™ – Companion upskills analysts to accelerate threat detection and response

Trend Micro Incorporated, a global cybersecurity leader, today announced the launch of its new generative AI tool, Trend Companion, designed to empower security analysts by driving streamlined workflows and enhanced productivity.

Kevin Simzer, COO at Trend: "Stretched security operations teams are struggling with the sheer volume and complexity of threat data. Trend Companion is our answer: an innovative generative AI tool designed to reduce complexity and accelerate security operations. It exemplifies the transformative innovation that drives our industry-leading cybersecurity platform. While others are slow to materialize their offering, we invested heavily in bringing this to market at high velocity and at high quality."

Trend Companion could potentially reduce analyst time spent on manual risk assessments and threat investigations by 50% or more thanks to a plain language interface which:

  • Explains and contextualizes alerts
  • Triages and recommends customized response actions
  • Decodes and explains complex scripts and command lines
  • Helps analysts develop and execute sophisticated threat hunting queries
  • Helps incident responders develop OSQuery queries in the IR and Forensics module

Over 13,000 Trend Micro customers already have access to Trend Companion, enabling SecOps analysts—of any skill level—to reduce mean time-to-understand and make faster and better-informed decisions.

"Trend Vision One has saved us ten percent of our time," said Matthew Guzzi, Information Systems Administrator for the South Carolina State Library. "It has eliminated the need for us to rebuild machines. It has helped us even more than that because the few times we have had a threat it has stopped it in its tracks."

Analysts predict that generative AI will eventually be embedded into all major security products, but Trend is leading the field.

Jon Oltsik, distinguished analyst and fellow at TechTarget's Enterprise Strategy Group, explained that Trend Companion has the potential to bridge the gap between SecOps knowledge and execution.

"Companion can help cybersecurity teams gain better security insights, accelerate threat detection and response, and bolster their defenses," Oltsik said. "I'm looking forward to seeing the acute impact this technology will have for security practitioners, but also the broader implications in addressing the industry's staffing and talent shortages."

Threat alerts in Trend Vision One are model-driven to adapt to the changing threat landscape. However, AI alone is not enough to keep security teams working at peak efficiency. The data that it is built on is critical. This is the value of Trend's global threat research team and Zero Day Initiative—the world's largest vendor-agnostic bug bounty program.

The combination of adaptive, model-driven threat alerts in Trend Vision One and Companion's GenAI capabilities can accelerate incident response times by 30%, reduce incident reporting by up to two hours per report, and drive more complete attack containment.

Trend Companion helps to minimize the breach opportunity for threat actors before it even materializes.
