The Vitamin Shoppe has appointed Kimberley Gardiner as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Growth Officer, adding an experienced retail marketing executive to its leadership team as the specialty wellness retailer prepares for its next phase of digital and customer experience development.
Gardiner reports to CEO Sharon Leite and will oversee the company's marketing organization, including brand strategy and creative, performance marketing, e-commerce, CRM and personalization, loyalty, corporate communications and public relations.
Her appointment comes as retailers increasingly connect brand marketing with customer data, personalization and omnichannel engagement. For wellness brands in particular, consumers can discover products through physical stores, e-commerce, digital content and loyalty programs, increasing the importance of a consistent customer experience across channels.
Retail marketing has increasingly shifted from broad brand campaigns toward data-informed customer engagement. Retailers are using first-party customer information, loyalty programs and performance marketing to understand purchasing behavior and personalize interactions across digital and physical channels.
Gardiner brings experience from Tractor Supply Company, where she served as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer from 2022. The company says she led national, regional and local marketing initiatives while advancing its brand and digital transformation. She also oversaw loyalty marketing for Neighbor's Club, which grew to more than 40 million members during her tenure.
Her previous experience includes serving as Chief Marketing Officer at Volkswagen of America, where she managed brand strategy, retail content, media planning, dealer marketing operations and consumer experience marketing. She also held marketing leadership roles at Mitsubishi Motors North America, Kia Motors America and digital asset management company 5th Kind, following 15 years at Toyota Motor Sales, USA.
At The Vitamin Shoppe, Gardiner is expected to use customer insights and data to support acquisition, loyalty and personalization while strengthening the retailer's brand positioning.
Her remit also extends beyond traditional marketing. She will work with merchandising teams and brand partners on product storytelling and the presentation of emerging wellness trends, connecting marketing activity with the retailer's broader commercial strategy.
The appointment is particularly relevant ahead of The Vitamin Shoppe's planned 50th anniversary in 2027. The company will need to balance its established brand recognition with changing consumer discovery and shopping behaviors.
The strategic challenge for Gardiner will be translating customer data into useful experiences without making personalization feel fragmented across stores and digital channels. Her background in large-scale retail and automotive marketing gives her experience managing brands where physical and digital customer journeys intersect.
