DigiKey and Machinechat have introduced a new line of rapid engineering kits designed to simplify the development of edge AI and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications. Combining pre-validated hardware with Machinechat's JEDI software platform, the kits aim to reduce integration complexity and accelerate prototype development for engineers, educators, OEMs, and enterprise innovation teams. The companies will also host a webinar on July 28 exploring how connected intelligence is reshaping edge computing and AI-powered automation.

Global electronics distributor DigiKey and IoT software provider Machinechat have partnered to introduce a series of Rapid Engineering Kits that integrate development hardware with Machinechat's JEDI (Just Enough Data Intelligence) software. The initiative is designed to help engineers accelerate the deployment of edge AI, Industrial IoT (IIoT), and connected intelligence applications by minimizing hardware and software integration challenges.

The announcement reflects a broader trend across enterprise technology, where organizations are seeking faster paths from prototype development to production-ready intelligent systems. As edge computing adoption grows, development teams increasingly require integrated hardware and software environments that reduce implementation time while supporting scalable AI-driven applications.

Traditionally, engineers developing IoT and edge AI solutions spend considerable time configuring development boards, integrating sensors, establishing connectivity, deploying software frameworks, and building dashboards before application development can begin. These repetitive tasks often delay innovation and increase project costs.

The new Rapid Engineering Kits seek to eliminate much of this overhead by packaging tested hardware configurations with enterprise-ready software. Available exclusively through DigiKey, the kits are designed to enable users to move from setup to functional deployment within minutes while providing flexibility to expand projects using additional sensors and supported hardware components.

According to DigiKey, the solution offers more than bundled hardware. Each kit combines development boards, connectivity modules, sensors, educational resources, software licensing, and implementation guidance into a unified engineering toolkit that allows developers to focus on solving domain-specific problems rather than assembling supporting infrastructure.

At the core of each kit is Machinechat JEDI One, a connected intelligence software platform that enables real-time data collection, visualization, storage, analytics, and automated alerts. The software includes a lifetime license with every kit, providing developers with integrated monitoring capabilities without requiring separate software procurement.

Rapid Engineering Kits combine hardware development platforms, sensors, connectivity modules, and edge intelligence software into a single deployment package. They enable engineers to rapidly prototype, monitor, and scale IoT and edge AI applications while reducing system integration effort.

The initial release features the Arduino UNO Q development board paired with an Adafruit BME280 environmental sensor, enabling immediate monitoring of environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure. DigiKey and Machinechat indicated that additional kits supporting other hardware ecosystems are planned to expand development options across multiple industrial and commercial use cases.

Alongside the product launch, the companies announced a July 28 webinar focused on the evolution of connected intelligence and practical edge AI implementation. The session will feature Machinechat founder and chief architect Sanjeev Datla alongside DigiKey technical marketing manager Josh Mickolio, discussing topics including Linux-based edge computing, real-time physical control systems, deployment optimization, and the transition from conventional IoT architectures to intelligent connected systems.
