Vusion has completed its acquisition of In-Store Media (ISM), bringing retail media network expertise, retailer relationships and international operations into its connected-store business. The deal is intended to strengthen Vusion's position in physical retail media, a channel the company says captures less than 3% of total retail media spending despite its proximity to shoppers and purchasing decisions. The combination aims to help retailers and brands connect in-store advertising with omnichannel campaigns, improve audience understanding and measure campaign impact more effectively.
Retail media investment has expanded across ecommerce platforms, but physical stores remain a less developed part of the channel. Vusion is seeking to address that gap by completing its acquisition of In-Store Media (ISM), a company specialising in the design, deployment and monetization of in-store retail media networks.
The transaction follows an agreement announced on July 27, 2026, and was completed after the required conditions, including regulatory approvals, were satisfied. Vusion said the acquisition was financed through a bridge facility with total commitments of €200 million, an initial maturity of 12 months and two six-month extension options.
Headquartered in Barcelona, ISM brings relationships with 90 retail banners and more than 1,600 brands. It operates across nine countries spanning Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), the Americas and Asia-Pacific (APAC).
For Vusion, the acquisition adds established retail media operations to its connected-store technology business. The company sees physical stores as a potential growth channel for retail media, arguing that their shopper traffic and proximity to purchase decisions create opportunities for brands to reach consumers at relevant moments.
Retail media networks have become an important part of advertising and commerce strategies, giving retailers opportunities to monetize their customer relationships and first-party data. Much of the market's development, however, has centred on digital properties such as retailer websites and apps.
Vusion says physical stores account for less than 3% of retail media spending. The figure highlights the gap between the commercial potential of in-store environments and their current share of retail media investment.
Expanding the channel requires more than placing screens or advertising displays inside stores. Retailers and brands need ways to understand audiences, deliver relevant content, coordinate campaigns across physical and digital channels, and demonstrate whether advertising influences commercial outcomes.
This is where the combination of Vusion's connected-store platform and ISM's retail media experience is intended to create value. The companies aim to make in-store media easier to incorporate into omnichannel campaigns while improving the ability to measure its impact on sales.
ISM's retailer and brand relationships give Vusion access to an established network and operational experience in managing in-store media. Its presence across nine countries also provides an international foundation for expanding the combined business.
The strategic opportunity lies in connecting retail media operations with digital capabilities that can support audience understanding, content activation and campaign measurement. If successfully integrated, these capabilities could help retailers manage in-store media as part of a broader commercial media strategy rather than as a separate advertising channel.
For brands, closer integration with omnichannel campaigns could make physical-store placements easier to plan alongside digital media investments. For retailers, the combination could create additional monetization opportunities from store environments and customer traffic.
However, the announcement does not specify how the two businesses' technology platforms will be integrated, what measurement standards will be used or how quickly the combined offering will be deployed across ISM's retail network.
Vusion Chairman and CEO Thierry Gadou described the acquisition as an opportunity to combine the company's connected-store platform with ISM's retail media expertise. ISM CEO Fernando de Vicente said the transaction would support the company's digitalization and expansion while building on existing retailer and brand partnerships.
The next phase will involve translating those complementary capabilities into a more integrated commercial offering. That will require retailers to adopt the technology and media operating model, brands to allocate more campaign investment to physical stores, and both sides to establish credible ways to assess performance.
ISM is scheduled to participate in Vusion's Capital Markets Day in Paris on November 18, 2026. The event is expected to provide further detail on the role of in-store digital retail media in Vusion's medium-term strategy and the growth opportunities associated with the acquisition.
The deal gives Vusion greater exposure to an established in-store media business. Whether it can accelerate investment in physical retail media will depend on integration, measurable campaign outcomes and the willingness of retailers and advertisers to scale the channel.
Retail media is expanding beyond retailer websites and apps as brands look for ways to reach shoppers closer to purchase decisions. Physical stores offer a distinct environment, but scaling in-store media requires audience insights, digital activation capabilities, campaign management and reliable measurement.
Vusion's acquisition of ISM brings together connected-store technology and an established in-store media network business. The combination reflects an industry effort to make physical retail environments more integrated with digital advertising and omnichannel commerce strategies.
The acquisition could strengthen Vusion's position in the development of connected retail media networks. ISM's relationships with 90 retail banners and more than 1,600 brands provide an existing commercial base, while Vusion's technology capabilities offer a potential route to broader digital integration.
The key test will be whether the combined business can make in-store media easier to buy, activate and measure alongside other channels. Retailers will need commercially effective media operations, while advertisers will expect transparent evidence of audience reach and sales impact.
Vusion's Capital Markets Day on November 18, 2026, should offer a clearer view of its integration priorities and medium-term ambitions. Until further details emerge, the acquisition's strategic rationale is clear, but its financial and operational contribution remains to be demonstrated.
