McKinsey and Parloa Form Alliance to Accelerate Enterprise AI Customer Experience

McKinsey & Company and customer experience technology provider Parloa have announced an alliance to help enterprises deploy and manage AI agents in customer-facing operations. The collaboration combines McKinsey’s organizational readiness, operational transformation and AI expertise—including capabilities from QuantumBlack—with Parloa’s platform for building, optimizing and managing AI agents across customer interactions. The companies are targeting a common enterprise challenge: moving from AI experimentation to reliable deployment, supported by the governance, technical integration and workforce changes needed to operate AI agents at scale.

McKinsey and Parloa Target the Enterprise AI Readiness Gap

The alliance brings management consulting and AI implementation capabilities together around agentic customer experience (CX), where AI agents are designed to handle customer interactions and support service workflows.

Parloa provides technology for building, optimizing and managing AI agents across the customer lifecycle and multiple channels. McKinsey teams, including QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey, will help clients assess readiness, design and engineer agentic solutions, and establish the technology, governance and talent frameworks needed for adoption.

The companies say the collaboration is intended to help enterprises adapt AI agents to existing systems, operating processes and customer requirements. The goal is to improve how quickly customer issues are resolved while supporting service quality and satisfaction.

The announcement reflects a broader challenge in enterprise AI: deploying a capable model is only one part of the work. Organizations must also connect agents to business systems, define what actions they can take, establish escalation paths and prepare employees to manage exceptions. Without those elements, AI deployments may struggle to move beyond limited pilots.

Governance and Organizational Readiness Remain Barriers

The companies cite research pointing to gaps in enterprise readiness. McKinsey research has found that roughly one-third of enterprises lack the operational governance needed to sustain deployed AI agents, while a Parloa survey found that fewer than 25% of customer experience operators were confident in their ability to design and evaluate AI agents.

These findings highlight two distinct requirements: organizations need controls for operating AI systems, and they need the skills to assess whether those systems perform as intended.

For customer service teams, governance can involve setting boundaries around automated decisions, determining when a conversation should transfer to a human, monitoring response quality and maintaining oversight of sensitive interactions. Integration with customer relationship management platforms, knowledge bases and contact center systems can also determine whether an agent can resolve an issue rather than simply respond to a question.

McKinsey’s contribution is expected to cover readiness diagnostics and operating-model design, while Parloa supplies the technology for agent development and management. Parloa Chief Revenue Officer Chris Silver said the alliance is intended to bridge the gap between strategy and execution in customer operations.

From AI Pilots to Measurable Customer Outcomes

The alliance comes as enterprises look for ways to turn AI investment into operational improvements. McKinsey’s 2026 AI Trust Maturity Survey found that only about one-third of surveyed organizations had reached maturity levels of three or higher in strategy, governance and agentic AI governance.

That gap can be particularly consequential in customer service, where an AI agent may need to interpret a request, retrieve customer information, follow company policy and decide when a human employee should intervene.

The companies say they are already advising several large-scale clients together, although the announcement does not name those customers or disclose commercial terms and quantified results. Their alliance is intended to extend the approach to enterprises across the United States, Europe and other markets.

Parloa’s platform supports AI agents across customer touchpoints, while McKinsey contributes operational transformation, implementation and change-management expertise. Whether the combination delivers better service quality, customer loyalty and revenue will depend on how successfully clients integrate the technology into their operations and measure its results.

Market Landscape

Enterprise customer experience technology is moving beyond conventional chatbots toward AI agents capable of handling more complex tasks across voice and digital channels. This transition requires more than conversational capability: agents need access to reliable business data, clear operating boundaries, escalation processes and ongoing performance evaluation.

McKinsey’s research on AI governance highlights the organizational challenge. Deloitte separately reported in April 2026 that only 21% of 3,235 surveyed business and IT leaders across 24 countries said their organizations had a mature governance model for agentic AI.

The market includes customer experience platforms, contact center vendors, conversational AI providers and consulting firms helping enterprises integrate AI into service operations. Parloa’s position centers on its AI Agent Management Platform, while McKinsey adds consulting and transformation capabilities.

The alliance also enters a growing ecosystem of partnerships between AI vendors and implementation specialists. The differentiator will not simply be the ability to launch agents, but the ability to deploy them safely across complex environments and demonstrate measurable business outcomes.

Strategic Outlook

For enterprise leaders, the alliance underscores the importance of treating agentic customer experience as an operating-model transformation rather than a standalone software deployment.

Successful implementation requires alignment among customer service, IT, security, data, compliance and workforce teams. Enterprises will need to establish which interactions agents can resolve independently, which decisions require approval, and how performance is evaluated when customer needs or business rules change.

The combination of McKinsey’s consulting expertise and Parloa’s technology may help organizations coordinate those requirements. However, buyers should seek evidence from live deployments, including resolution rates, customer satisfaction, escalation frequency, cost per interaction and error rates.

The broader opportunity is to use AI agents to improve both service efficiency and customer relationships. Realizing it will depend on operational readiness, reliable integration and meaningful human oversight—not automation alone.
