As shoppers increasingly turn to AI assistants to research products, incomplete catalog information can become a costly obstacle for ecommerce businesses. Coveo has acquired Anglera, a product data enrichment company, to help retailers and B2B commerce providers make catalog information more useful for both traditional search and AI-driven discovery. The deal adds Anglera's agentic AI technology to Coveo's commerce offering, combining product data enrichment with search and recommendation capabilities.
Coveo has acquired Anglera, a San Francisco-based company backed by Y Combinator that uses AI agents to extract, standardize and validate product attributes from sources such as manufacturer specifications, PDFs and images. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed in the announcement.
The deal addresses a growing challenge for ecommerce and B2B digital commerce teams: products can be difficult to discover when their catalog records lack the technical details buyers need to evaluate them. Dimensions, materials, compatibility information and other specifications may exist in manufacturer documents but remain absent from the structured product data used by search engines, recommendation systems and commerce platforms.
Coveo cites NielsenIQ research estimating that missing product attributes can reduce product discoverability by up to 30%. The figure underscores the potential commercial cost of incomplete product information, particularly in catalogs containing thousands of products or technically complex industrial components.
Anglera's technology is designed to close that gap. Its agentic enrichment platform extracts product details from multiple source documents, standardizes them against a customer's catalog requirements and retains source references to support traceability. The goal is to reduce the manual work required to maintain accurate, consistent product information at scale.
That capability is relevant to both business-to-consumer retailers and business-to-business sellers. In consumer ecommerce, attributes can help shoppers compare products with similar prices or appearances. In industrial commerce, a missing compatibility specification or measurement can prevent a buyer from identifying the correct component.
The acquisition combines Anglera's product enrichment capabilities with Coveo's AI-powered search, recommendations and personalization technology. Coveo analyzes signals such as buyer intent, context and behavior to surface relevant products. Anglera focuses on improving the information those discovery systems can use.
Together, the companies envision a feedback loop in which unsuccessful searches and frequently requested attributes expose gaps in product catalogs. Enrichment can then address those gaps, while search and commerce analytics help businesses evaluate whether discovery improves.
This approach also has implications for answer engine optimization (AEO) and generative engine optimization (GEO). AI assistants need accessible, specific and consistent product information to answer questions, compare alternatives and recommend relevant items. Better structured data can improve the likelihood that products are understood and retrieved correctly, although enrichment alone cannot guarantee inclusion in AI-generated answers.
Anglera reports promising early results. In a 30-day A/B test with an apparel retailer, approximately 300 SKU variants received enriched attributes and were compared with a control group. The company reported a 120% increase in organic landing-page traffic and a 270% increase in AI-referred visits for enriched pages.
These results are notable but should be interpreted as vendor-reported findings from a single retailer test. The announcement does not provide enough information to establish whether the results would generalize across other industries, catalog sizes or AI discovery platforms.
Coveo's acquisition reflects a broader shift in ecommerce technology: product discovery increasingly depends on the quality of the underlying product information, not just the sophistication of the search engine.
Platforms such as Algolia, Bloomreach and Constructor compete in areas including ecommerce search, merchandising, personalization and product discovery. Gartner's research on search and product discovery identifies a broad vendor landscape serving both B2B and B2C commerce requirements.
Coveo's move adds a complementary capability: enriching catalog attributes at the source and connecting them with search intent and discovery outcomes. This could help differentiate its commerce offering, particularly for manufacturers and distributors managing complex catalogs.
However, the acquisition does not eliminate the need for product information management (PIM), catalog governance or human review. AI-generated attributes must still be checked for accuracy, consistency and compliance, especially when specifications affect product compatibility or purchasing decisions.
The commercial opportunity lies in creating a continuous improvement loop between catalog data and buyer behavior. If unsuccessful searches reveal missing specifications, and enrichment fixes those gaps, commerce teams could use observed search and conversion outcomes to prioritize product data improvements.
For enterprise marketing and ecommerce teams, implementation should focus on three priorities: establish reliable source data, measure discovery changes against control groups, and connect organic and AI-referred traffic with downstream conversion and revenue.
Coveo says Anglera customers will continue using its existing platform, while Anglera's enrichment technology will become available to Coveo Commerce customers as an add-on. Deeper integration is planned, but the companies have not disclosed a detailed integration timeline or financial terms.
The acquisition's longer-term value will depend on whether Coveo can deliver measurable improvements across different catalog types and AI discovery channels—not simply increase the number of enriched product records.
Agentic product enrichment: Coveo's acquisition of Anglera adds AI agents that extract and standardize product attributes, helping enterprise retailers and distributors address catalog gaps at scale.
Improved product discovery: NielsenIQ estimates missing attributes can reduce product discoverability by up to 30%, highlighting the potential cost of incomplete ecommerce product information.
Reported organic growth: Anglera reported 120% higher organic landing-page traffic in a 30-day apparel retailer test, although broader results remain unverified.
AI search readiness: Enriched product attributes can help search engines and AI assistants understand product specifications, supporting more accurate retrieval and product comparisons.
Commerce intelligence integration: Coveo plans to connect product enrichment with buyer search behavior, potentially helping ecommerce teams prioritize catalog improvements using discovery and conversion data.
