Cloudinary has been named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Asset Management (DAM) Platforms, marking its third consecutive appearance in the report and its first in the Leader category. The recognition follows two previous Visionary placements and comes as the company expands its platform with AI agents for managing, searching and moderating visual content.
The 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant recognition marks a change in Cloudinary’s position in the analyst firm's assessment of digital asset management platforms. The company said it had appeared in the previous two reports as a Visionary before receiving its first Leader designation this year.
Cloudinary provides infrastructure for managing images and video across digital experiences. The company says more than 13,000 brands use its platform to handle visual media throughout the content lifecycle, from ingestion and organization to optimization and delivery.
The recognition comes as DAM platforms take on a broader role in enterprise content operations. Beyond storing and organizing media, businesses increasingly need systems that can prepare assets for different channels, support collaboration and maintain brand consistency across digital properties.
Cloudinary is positioning its platform around that shift. Rob Daynes, the company's VP of New Business, said DAM is becoming part of the infrastructure powering digital experiences rather than functioning only as a content library.
A central part of Cloudinary's recent product development is the use of governed AI agents to automate tasks across the media lifecycle. The company says these agents can handle metadata tagging, natural-language search, workflow creation and content moderation.
The goal is to reduce manual work involved in preparing visual assets for publication. Automated metadata can help organize large media collections, while natural-language search gives teams another way to find relevant content without relying exclusively on manually assigned tags or exact search terms.
Cloudinary has also introduced Moderation, which can automatically approve, flag or reject visual content according to custom brand guidelines. This gives organizations a way to apply review rules across larger volumes of media, although businesses will still need to establish appropriate guidelines and oversight for automated decisions.
These capabilities address operational challenges for companies managing visual content across multiple teams, markets and publishing channels. They may also help reduce the time between asset creation and publication.
Another recent addition is Image to Video, which turns static images into videos at scale. The feature is aimed at organizations that need to adapt existing visual material for video-led experiences without treating every asset as a separate production project.
The capability reflects growing demand for content in multiple formats. Retailers, publishers and other digital businesses often need to adapt product imagery and campaign assets for websites, mobile experiences, social platforms and other channels.
Cloudinary says its platform is designed to manage and optimize images and video from ingestion through delivery. Its focus on performance also reflects the commercial importance of visual experience quality, including media loading times and presentation across devices.
Daynes said the company's AI capabilities are intended to help brands prepare media for different pages, devices and channels while maintaining control over the resulting digital experiences.
DAM platforms are evolving from centralized media repositories into systems that support content operations, distribution and digital experience delivery. Generative AI and automation are adding new capabilities, including metadata creation, content discovery and media transformation.
However, the value of these features depends on governance, integration with existing content workflows and the accuracy of automated processing. Organizations must also consider how AI-generated or modified assets are reviewed and how brand guidelines are enforced across markets and channels.
Cloudinary's first Leader designation in the 2026 Gartner report adds analyst recognition to its broader push into AI-assisted media operations. Its recent product additions suggest a strategy focused on combining asset management, automated preparation, moderation and delivery within one platform.
For enterprises evaluating DAM technology, relevant considerations include support for different media formats, search quality, workflow automation, governance controls, integration capabilities and delivery performance. Gartner's recognition is one input into that evaluation, not a substitute for assessing how a platform fits an organization's requirements.
