Circana has expanded its Liquid Mix marketing measurement platform with Google’s Meridian, combining the open-source marketing mix modeling (MMM) framework with Circana’s first-party consumer and retail data. The move reflects a broader shift toward more transparent, privacy-conscious measurement systems as marketers seek faster ways to connect media spending with business outcomes.
Announced September 8, 2026, the integration gives advertisers another approach to measuring marketing effectiveness and optimizing media investments within the Liquid Mix environment. Circana says the combination is designed to support measurement across both digital and physical commerce, including e-commerce and brick-and-mortar activity.
Google describes Meridian as an open-source MMM framework designed around transparency, privacy durability and marketing budget optimization. Its modeling process can incorporate media exposure, spending, reach and frequency, revenue or other business KPIs, as well as control variables and non-media factors.
For Circana, the integration adds Meridian's modeling framework to a data environment that includes billions of verified transactions, loyalty-based purchase signals, demographic information and retail outcomes measurement, according to the company. This combination is significant because MMM increasingly depends on connecting media activity with downstream commercial outcomes rather than evaluating campaigns solely through platform-reported metrics.
Market Landscape
Marketing measurement is moving toward models that can operate across fragmented media channels while reducing dependence on user-level tracking. MMM is particularly relevant in this environment because it evaluates historical relationships among marketing activity, business outcomes and other variables at an aggregated level.
Google's Meridian also emphasizes transparency through open-source methodology. Its documentation states that the library is free and open source, while user model inputs and outputs remain private unless the user chooses to share them.
Circana is positioning Liquid Mix as an always-on alternative to slower measurement cycles. The company says the platform can deliver insights up to 80% faster than traditional MMM, although that figure is a Circana-reported performance claim rather than an independently verified industry benchmark.
Strategic Outlook
The Meridian integration could give advertisers greater flexibility in how marketing mix models are developed and interpreted. The open-source framework also gives analytics teams visibility into methodology, while Circana's consumer and retail datasets provide additional context for connecting media activity to purchase behavior.
However, the value of any MMM implementation ultimately depends on data quality, model design and appropriate interpretation. Google's own documentation emphasizes the importance of complete media, KPI and control-variable data and recommends exploratory analysis to identify missing, inaccurate or anomalous inputs before modeling.
