Kyndryl and WPP Expand Partnership Around Agentic AI and Marketing

Kyndryl and WPP are expanding their strategic relationship into a broader technology-and-marketing alliance that combines enterprise modernization, agentic AI and marketing transformation. The agreement makes WPP Kyndryl's preferred global marketing partner while bringing Kyndryl's Agentic AI Framework and Kyndryl Bridge into WPP's technology modernization program and expanding joint go-to-market efforts.

Kyndryl and WPP are broadening a relationship that previously connected enterprise technology and customer experience capabilities into a more integrated model spanning IT modernization, agentic AI, marketing operations and revenue growth.

Announced October 6, the expanded agreement has three components: modernizing WPP's business platforms and support model, making WPP Kyndryl's preferred global marketing partner, and strengthening joint go-to-market initiatives aimed at helping enterprise customers modernize their businesses.

The technology component is particularly significant because Kyndryl will apply its Agentic AI Framework across WPP's application estate. The framework is designed to orchestrate AI agents within enterprise workflows while maintaining human oversight, governance and integration with existing technology environments.

For WPP, the objective is to simplify a complex technology environment as part of its Elevate28 strategy. The planned operating model brings workplace, cloud, infrastructure and enterprise services into a common automated model, while legacy applications are retired and strategic platforms are expanded.

Kyndryl Bridge will provide another layer of that architecture. Kyndryl describes the platform as an AI-powered, open-integration environment for integrating, observing and orchestrating technology estates. The company said Bridge is already used by more than 1,400 customers and is designed to provide the foundation for deploying and governing agentic workflows across enterprise IT.

The marketing side of the agreement is equally important.

Kyndryl is expanding its existing relationship with WPP beyond media, brand and creative strategy. WPP will become Kyndryl's preferred global marketing partner, with the expanded scope covering digital, experiential and integrated marketing capabilities.

The arrangement also includes an AI-powered Marketing Operating System built around WPP Open, WPP's agentic marketing platform. WPP Open connects strategy, creative, media and production workflows through AI agents, shared intelligence and human expertise rather than treating AI as a collection of isolated automation tools.

That creates an interesting convergence between two traditionally separate enterprise layers.

Kyndryl is bringing AI agents into the infrastructure and operational side of the enterprise, while WPP is deploying agents across marketing workflows. The partnership effectively connects AI-enabled IT operations with AI-enabled customer engagement.

The commercial opportunity extends beyond the two companies' internal transformation. Kyndryl Consult and WPP Enterprise Solutions, formerly VML Enterprise Solutions, will continue joint go-to-market efforts first announced in 2025. The partners intend to help customers rethink engagement and business transformation using AI, data and emerging technologies.

This is part of a broader movement in enterprise technology in which systems integration, cloud modernization and marketing transformation are increasingly converging around AI. Kyndryl has been expanding its own agentic-AI portfolio, including services-as-software that package its engineering expertise into reusable agentic workflows.

WPP, meanwhile, has been extending WPP Open through partnerships with major technology platforms. In 2026, the company integrated Google Earth AI capabilities into WPP Open for location-aware marketing and announced an expanded Adobe relationship around agentic workflows and customer experience orchestration.

The competitive implication is significant. Enterprise customers increasingly want fewer disconnected AI pilots and more integrated systems spanning data, applications, infrastructure and business processes. The Kyndryl-WPP model attempts to address that demand from both ends: Kyndryl modernizes the technology foundation while WPP transforms the marketing layer running on top of it.

For marketing leaders, the development also points to a changing definition of the MarTech stack. Marketing platforms can no longer be evaluated solely on campaign functionality. Their ability to connect with enterprise data, infrastructure, AI agents and operational systems is becoming part of the competitive equation.

The key question will be whether the expanded relationship produces measurable customer outcomes rather than simply adding another layer of strategic collaboration. If Kyndryl and WPP can turn their combined technology and marketing capabilities into repeatable enterprise transformation programs, the partnership could become a model for how IT services companies and global marketing groups jointly commercialize agentic AI.

Market Landscape

Enterprise AI is increasingly moving from individual productivity tools toward agentic workflows embedded in core business operations. Kyndryl's own framework emphasizes moving from isolated AI pilots toward enterprise-scale orchestration, with governance and human oversight built into deployment.

At the marketing layer, WPP is pursuing a similar consolidation strategy through WPP Open. Rather than positioning AI as a single creative or media tool, the platform connects strategy, creative, media and production workflows through coordinated AI agents.

The result is an emerging enterprise architecture in which AI infrastructure, customer data, marketing operations and business applications increasingly overlap. Vendors that can bridge those layers may have an advantage over point solutions that address only individual marketing or IT tasks.

Strategic Outlook

The Kyndryl-WPP agreement is strategically important because each company brings capabilities the other does not traditionally own.

Kyndryl contributes enterprise infrastructure, modernization, managed services and AI-enabled IT operations. WPP contributes marketing strategy, creative, media, customer experience and an increasingly sophisticated agentic marketing platform.

That combination could give both companies a stronger proposition for enterprises attempting to connect back-office modernization with front-office growth.

For MarTech leaders, the larger takeaway is that the next generation of marketing infrastructure may be increasingly dependent on enterprise technology architecture. AI agents need access to trusted data, applications and workflows before they can reliably automate marketing decisions.

The success of this partnership will therefore depend less on the number of AI capabilities introduced and more on whether the companies can demonstrate lower complexity, faster operations, stronger marketing productivity and measurable customer growth.
