Freedom Holding Corp. has partnered with Antom, the merchant payment and digitization platform operated by Ant International, to simplify cross-border online shopping for consumers in Kazakhstan. The agreement will integrate the Freedom Bank SuperApp with major Chinese e-commerce platforms, allowing users to pay with their local banking application while supporting broader digital commerce and international payment connectivity.
Freedom Holding Corp. has signed a strategic agreement with Antom, the merchant payment and digital commerce platform under Ant International, to strengthen cross-border payment infrastructure between Kazakhstan and China's expanding e-commerce ecosystem. The collaboration is designed to enable users of the Freedom Bank SuperApp to make purchases on leading Chinese online marketplaces using their preferred local payment method.
The agreement was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during a meeting between Timur Turlov, Chief Executive Officer of Freedom Holding Corp., and representatives from the global fintech sector. The initiative reflects growing demand for localized payment solutions as international digital commerce continues to expand across Central Asia.
Cross-border online shopping has accelerated in recent years as consumers increasingly purchase products directly from international marketplaces. However, payment compatibility, currency conversion, and localized checkout experiences remain major barriers to seamless international transactions. The new partnership seeks to address these challenges by connecting Kazakhstan's domestic digital banking ecosystem with China's global e-commerce infrastructure.
Under the agreement, Antom will recognize the Freedom Bank SuperApp as a supported payment method across participating Chinese e-commerce platforms. This integration allows consumers in Kazakhstan to complete online purchases using familiar domestic payment services rather than relying on international cards or alternative payment intermediaries.
Cross-border digital payment platforms enable consumers to make purchases from international merchants using local payment methods while managing currency conversion, payment authorization, and settlement through integrated financial infrastructure. These systems simplify international commerce by reducing payment friction for both merchants and consumers.
Antom currently supports more than 300 local payment methods, connecting merchants with consumers across more than 200 markets while facilitating transactions in over 100 currencies. Through the collaboration, Freedom Bank SuperApp users are expected to gain access not only to Chinese marketplaces but also to a broader global merchant network supported by Antom's international payment infrastructure.
The companies also indicated that they intend to explore additional opportunities involving cross-border digital payments and financial services as the partnership develops.
According to Freedom Holding, the collaboration aligns with its broader strategy of expanding financial services beyond domestic banking by integrating international commerce into its digital ecosystem. The company sees growing trade between Kazakhstan and China as an opportunity to strengthen digital financial infrastructure that supports consumers, merchants, and businesses engaged in cross-border transactions.
The initiative also reflects broader trends shaping the global fintech industry. Consumers increasingly expect digital banking applications to function as comprehensive financial ecosystems capable of supporting payments, shopping, investments, and international transactions through a single interface.
Research from McKinsey & Company indicates that digital payments continue to be one of the fastest-growing segments of financial services, driven by mobile commerce, embedded finance, and cross-border digital transactions. Meanwhile, Statista projects continued expansion in global e-commerce spending, supported by increasing adoption of digital wallets and localized payment solutions.
The competitive landscape includes global payment providers and technology companies such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Apple, alongside specialized financial technology platforms focused on digital wallets, payment orchestration, and international commerce. Regional financial institutions are increasingly partnering with global payment networks rather than building proprietary international infrastructure independently.
For merchants, localized payment integration offers access to new consumer markets without requiring extensive changes to existing payment systems. For consumers, familiar domestic payment methods improve transaction confidence, simplify checkout experiences, and reduce barriers associated with international purchases.
The agreement also demonstrates the growing role of embedded finance, where banking services become integrated directly into broader digital ecosystems. Rather than functioning solely as financial institutions, banks increasingly provide payment infrastructure that connects consumers with commerce platforms, digital services, and international marketplaces.
Looking ahead, cross-border payment partnerships are expected to become increasingly important as global e-commerce expands into emerging markets. The collaboration between Freedom Holding and Antom illustrates how fintech companies are combining local financial ecosystems with global payment infrastructure to simplify international commerce while supporting broader digital economic growth.
Cross-border digital payments have become a strategic priority for financial institutions as international e-commerce continues expanding across emerging and developed markets. Consumers increasingly demand localized payment experiences when shopping globally, encouraging banks, fintech providers, and payment platforms to build interoperable financial ecosystems. Partnerships between regional banks and global payment infrastructure providers are becoming a key driver of digital commerce growth and embedded financial services.
